My Story

Jocotenango, where your child lives, is in the state of Sacatepéquez, Guatemala and is a suburb of Antigua. It is an urban environment and is inhabited by both Quiché Indians and Ladinos (those with mixed European ancestry). Most of the children attend school, but financial hardship affects many families and forces most of the children to leave after the sixth grade. Only one out of ten children finish high school. Children in this area face temptations from gangs and drugs.

Hello! My name is Genesis Sofia Solorzano Munoz. I was born on August 24th of 2017 in Jocotenango village. I am now 7 years old. This year I attended Kindergarten. I love drawing and coloring; it is my hobby. My favorite color is pink. The giraffe is the animal I like the most. The food I love the most is black beans with rice. I have one brother and two sisters. Thankfully, my mother, siblings and I are doing well. My mother´s name is Johana Elizabeth Solorzano Munoz. She is a single mother and works hard as a maid to supply all our needs. My biological father abandoned us, and we do not know anything about him. Our pet is a dog.

We do not attend church for now. We rent the house in which we live in, and the monthly payment is Q1600.00= $214.00. There are four rooms; we use one of those as a kitchen. The house is made of concrete blocks and wood with tin roof and a cement floor. We have running water and electricity; the water is included in the rent. My mother pays for electricity every month. I am very grateful for the opportunity to be registered in the feeding program and receive support from Living Water. I usually walk 20 minutes to get to the program. My greatest need at home is a bed. Thank you for reading my information, I hope to receive news from you very soon. Many huge blessings!

Warm regards,

Genesis Sofia Solorzano Munoz
