My Story

Pasojoc III, where your child lives, is located in an extremely remote area of the mountains in Quiche, Guatemala.  Life in this area is very difficult and very isolated from the outside world. It is a 3-hour walk to the nearest market town.  The people who inhabit the area are Quiche Mayans who can trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization.  They normally speak a Mayan dialect called Quiche; however, Spanish is becoming more common.  The climate is basically warm, but it can get very cold at night.  Houses in this area are typically constructed of adobe with tin sheet or tile roofs and dirt floors.  Pasojoc III is an area rich with natural resources.  It is a farming area where the inhabitants grow staples such as corn, beans and other types of vegetables.  Many families also raise domestic animals such as sheep, goats, cows and chickens.

Hello, my name is Luciana Garcia de la Cruz. I was born on April 10, 2016, in Zacualpa, Quiche, and I am 8 years old. I am a healthy girl. I am in 2nd grade at school this year. My favorite color is pink, and I love rabbits. I spend my spare time doing the homework from my school and coloring drawings. My favorite food is fried chicken. I have three brothers and one sister. I want to tell you that I walk to the program for one hour and a half.  As a family, we are attending the Prince of Peace Church called “Nuevo Pacto”. I am under the care of my parents. My father’s name is Carlos Garcia de Leon. He works as a farmer. Moreover, he travels to the coast to pick coffee beans from November to March. Currently, he has a mass growing in his stomach, but he has not yet visited the doctor due to a lack of money.  My mother’s name is Santos de la Cruz Garcia, she is a housewife, a healthy woman and takes care of the family. In addition, she raises some hens at home to sell and get some income.

We live in my maternal uncle`s house and his daughter-in-law lives there. Thankfully, we do not pay rent. It has two rooms and one separated kitchen. Our house is made of adobe, tin sheet roof, and dirt floors. We have running water, and my father pays this service but only when there is some damage in the principal tubing. We do not have electricity, so we use candles at night. As a humble family, our needs are groceries, and we would like to have more hens. We have some pigs, a cow, a cat and a dog at home. This is my personal information, and I hope you enjoy reading it. My mother gave this information to the LW evangelism team.  Blessings to you!

Huge hugs,

Luciana Garcia de la Cruz
