My Story

Duenas, where your child lives, is a small farming village located at the foot of one of Guatemala's active volcanoes, Fuego (Fire). The fertile ground around the village allows for the cultivation of roses and coffee, two of Guatemala's largest exports. Most of the families in this area live in one or two room wooden or adobe houses with tin roofs. Electricity is available to those who can afford it. Running water is available - however, most homes do not have indoor plumbing. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider education of value. Life in Duenas is quiet and sometimes difficult.

Hello! My full name is Liliana Rosaura Gaspar Pedro, and I am so happy to introduce myself through this letter. I was born on September 23, 2014. Fortunately, I am a healthy 10-year-old girl. As for school, let me tell you that I am in second grade. My favorite color is pink. I love hamburgers, and I like horses. One of my favorite pastimes is playing soccer with my friends and siblings. Now, let me tell you a little about my family. My father is Juan Gaspar Pedro. He works by carrying people from one place to another in his pedicab. My mom is Rosamary Pedro Sebastian. She keeps busy doing the household chores and taking care of my siblings and me. She was delighted to help me write this letter to you. I have two brothers and two sisters. We are all members of the Voice of the Lamb Christian Church.

Please pray for my whole family and me. We are a low-income family, and one of our greatest needs is groceries. We rent a house to live in. The rent payment is Q500=$64.67 monthly. That payment does not include the bills for the services. The house’s walls and roof are made of tin sheets with dirt floors. It has three rooms, a separate kitchen, electricity, and running water. My family and I have one dog and one chicken at home as pets. Fortunately, the feeding program is a ten-minute walk from where I live. I am glad and grateful to be part of LW-Adopt A Child. Thank you so much for reading my information.

Many kisses and hugs,

Liliana Rosaura Gaspar Pedro
