My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiche, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value.  Life in Quiche is always a challenge

It is so exciting to share my history with you. I hope you find it interesting. My name is Leo Geovany Suar Tol. I was born on February 10th, 2020. I am 4 years old. This year I tried to go to study, but I felt afraid and left school. I like to play soccer in my free time. My favorite color is yellow, and I love cows. I like many foods, but when I eat chicken broth, I am a very happy boy. I want to tell you a little bit about my family. My father´s name is Julian Suar Chitic. He works as a mason helper, and he struggles to cover all our expenses. My mother´s name is Ana Tol Us de Suar. She is a housewife. She dedicates her time to taking care of us and our home. In addition, she weaves typical clothes at home. I have three brothers and three sisters.  We are members of the Methodist Church. By the grace of God, my family and I are in good health. We live in my mother´s house. It has four rooms and a kitchen. The house is made of adobe walls, a tin sheet roof and concrete floor. We do not have running water. My aunt gives us water, and we go to her house to bring it in jars. Thanks to God, we have electricity. We have many needs but the most important for us is to have our own running water or a well. We have some hens and pigs. We walk 30 minutes to get to the feeding program. Thank you very much for taking the time to read my information and I hope this finds you doing well.

In Jesus name,

Leo Geovany Suar Tol
