My Story

Zacualpa is a small but busy village in a mountain valley.  The village is inhabited by both Quiché Indians and Ladinos (those with mixed European ancestry). The prevalent language is Spanish. Families in this village live in one or two room homes generally constructed of either wood or adobe.  Although many of the people are farmers, the village contains several small, specialized stores, a body repair shop for buses, mechanics, plumbers and many other smalltown tradesmen. It also has a large open-air market which serves much of the area.  Even with all of this, the poverty level is very high, and the children are very needy.

Hello! I am Pedro Manuel Tzoy Riz, and I feel so happy for this opportunity to share a little bit of me. I hope you find this interesting. I am going to start by telling you that I was born on November 17, 2017. I will turn 7 years old this year. I am in kindergarten. In my free time, I like playing soccer. I like blue color, and my favorite animal is the pinguin. I am a healthy boy that enjoys eating roasted chicken.

I live with my parents. Their names are Daniel Elias Tzoy Morente and Vilma Roxana Riz Luis. My father works as farmer, and day laborer while my mother takes care of us and the house. She sometimes sells tamales (typical Guatemalan dish) to earn some money. I have just one sister. Thankfully, they are in good health. Our family attends the Prince of Peace Pentecostal Church. Our greatest needs are food and clothes. My sister and I attend the feeding program with our aunt who is enrolled too. We walk for 15 minutes to be there. My parents rented a humble house. They pay Q600.00 = $80 monthly. The house has one room, and a kitchen made of brick walls and cemented roof and floor. We have running water and electricity that my father pays for. We do not have any pets. Well, it is time to say goodbye, so I just have to add that my mother gave this information to the LW team. Thank you so much for your attention. May the Lord bless you wherever you are! I look forward to writing to you again.

Best wishes,

Pedro Manuel Tzoy Riz
