Chixocol
Guatemala
Child
Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiche, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value. Life in Quiche is always a challenge
It is a pleasure to greet you, hoping that you are doing well. My name is Lincoln Anthony de la Cruz Mendoza, and I am a happy and healthy 7-year-old boy. I was born on January 5, 2017. I am in 1st. grade this year. My favorite color is yellow, my favorite animals are dogs, and my favorite food is “pollo Campero” (fried chicken). In my free time, I like to play soccer. My father´s name is Ismael de la Cruz Coj. He works as a mechanic, and he is the only one that covers our expenses. My mother´s name is Jennifer Roxana Mendoza Garcia. She is a housewife and takes care of me. I do not have any siblings. We attend the Catholic Church. We live in a borrowed house. It is my maternal aunt´s house. It has three rooms, but we use two of them. We have a separate kitchen. The house is made of adobe walls, a tin sheet roof and concrete floor. Thankfully, we have running water and electricity. My father pays for these services. We have dogs as domestic animals. Our greatest needs are corn and groceries. I walk 25 minutes to get to the feeding program. I say goodbye now, and I thank you for taking your time to read my history.
May God Bless you
Lincoln Anthony de la Cruz Mendoza
