Zacualpa

Zacualpa is a small but busy village in a mountain valley. The village is inhabited by both Quiché Indians and Ladinos (those with mixed European ancestry). The prevalent language is Spanish. Families in this village live in one or two room homes generally constructed of either wood or adobe. Although many of the people are farmers, the village contains several small, specialized stores, a body repair shop for buses, mechanics, plumbers and many other smalltown tradesmen. It also has a large open-air market which serves much of the area. Even with all of this, the poverty level is very high, and the children are very needy.
Hello! I feel very excited to share about my life and family for the first time. Before starting, I want you to know that my mother gave this information to the LW team. My name is Angela Melisa Morente Garcia. I was born on September 14, 2013. I am 11 years old. I am a healthy girl that enjoys reading in her free time. I also like dogs, and my favorite color is blue. I love eating steak. I live with my parents. Their names are Agustin Morente Luis and Magdalena Garcia Riz. I have one brother and one sister. They are both healthy. Unfortunately, we do not attend any church currently, but I hope we can attend one soon.
My father earns a living as a mason´s helper while my mother takes care of us and the house. My mother takes my siblings and me to the program. It takes us 15 minutes by tuc-tuc to get there. My dad owns a house that has two rooms and one kitchen. The kitchen just has a tin sheet roof. The rest of the house is made of adobe, tin sheet roof and dirt floor. Our paternal grandfather shares electricity and running water with us. My parents and he share the expenses of those services as well. We have a dog and cats at home. Our greatest need at home is to fix our house because the tin sheet is damaged, and the water comes in during the rainy season. Moreover, the kitchen only has a roof. Well, it is time to say goodbye to you. Until next time. Please take care!
Many blessings,
Angela Melisa Morente Garcia
