My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small, attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years, electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value.  Life in Quiché is always a challenge.

I cordially greet you with gratitude for giving me the opportunity to share a little bit of myself through this letter. My name is Geovany Misael Garcia Mejia. I am now 4 years old. I was born on February 15, 2020. I do not attend school this year due to my young age. I enjoy playing toy soccer. My favorite color is blue and the animal that I like the most is the cat. I love to eat noodles soup. I live with my family. My father is Carlos Alfredo Garcia Tzoy. He earns a living working as a day laborer. He travels to the Coast in January to cut sugar cane. My mother is Maria Alicia Mejia Sicaj, and she struggles to help my father with expenses working as a maid. When she goes to work, she takes me and my brother with her. We are in good health.

We have the privilege to be part of the Liberty Church in Chixocol.  I have one brother but he still does not attend the feeding program. We share the house with my paternal grandmother, and she lets us ive in her house. There are two rooms, but we use one for a kitchen. The house is made of adobe walls, tin sheet roof and cement floor. We have running water but no electricity. We use candles for light. Our main needs are groceries. My mother helped me to give my information. I say goodbye for now and I hope to hear from you soon.

Please take care by yourself
