My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small, attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years, electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value.  Life in Quiché is always a challenge.

I send warm greetings and I hope you are doing great. My name is Juana Rosaura Miculax Aguilar. I turned 8 years old on April 21. I am attending school in second grade this year. I enjoy playing tag. My favorite color is purple. My favorite animal is the cat and I like to eat eggs. I am in good health. My father’s name is Alvaro Orlando Miculax Miculax, and he works as a farmer and also as a day laborer. Please pray for my father because sometimes he does not find a job and it affects our economy.  My mother name is Tomasa Aguilar Nas. She is a weaver in order to help my father with the expenses. I have three sisters and two of them are part of the feeding program. My family and I attend the Prince of Peace church. Thank God, all my family is well.

I live in my grandparent´s house with my family. There are four rooms made of adobe walls, tile roof and cement floor with a separate kitchen. We have running water and electricity, and my parents and grandparents pay for these services. We are praying God provides us with our own house. I walk about one hour to the Feeding Program. My mother helped me to give my information. I wish many blessings to each of you.

With much love

Juana Rosaura Miculax Aguilar
