Jocotenango, where your child lives, is in the state of Sacatepéquez, Guatemala and is a suburb of Antigua. It is an urban environment and is inhabited by both Quiché Indians and Ladinos (those with mixed European ancestry). Most of the children attend school, but financial hardship affects many families and forces most of the children to leave after the sixth grade. Only one out of ten children finish high school. Children in this area face temptations from gangs and drugs.
Hello! My name is Dara Nicole Chamorro Cardona. I was born on August 20, 2019, and I am now 5 years old; I am a healthy girl. Since I am still too young, I am not attending school this year. At the moment, I enjoy playing with my toy dishes. My favorite color is pink; the animal I love the most is the butterfly. I love eating and my favorite meal is black beans with rice. Our pets are 16 turtles. My mother´s name is Delmy Idalia Cardona Perez. She does the housework and takes care of my siblings and me. My father´s name is Luis Miguel Chamorro Golon. He makes a living by driving a tuk-tuk to sustain our family needs. I have two brothers; thank God, we all are fine.
As a family, we are members of the House of Prayer Church. We live in a piece of land that my mother inherited from my grandmother. We have only one room and share the running water and electricity services with my grandma. So, my parents contribute to pay the bill every month. We sleep and cook in the same room. The room is made a part of rustic wooden planks and a part of tin sheets, with a tin sheet roof and a cement floor. I am so happy attending the feeding program; I get there in about 30 minutes by bus. I want you to include my family in your prayers to stay well and for provision for us. I leave you for now hoping to hear news from you very soon. Many and abundant blessings over you!
Kisses and hugs,
Dara Nicole Chamorro Cardona
