My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small, attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value.  Life in Quiché is always a challenge.

Hello! My name is Yuleisy Elisabeth Pixcar Tiniguar, and I was born on September 17, 2018. I am now 5 years old, and I am in preschool this year. I am in good health, and I enjoy playing with my dolls in my free time. My favorite food is black beans with rice. I love the color pink, and I like hens. My family and I are attending Assembly of God Church. I have two brothers and five sisters; four of them are registered at the feeding program too. My father’s name is Lucas Pixcar Tiu, and my mother’s name is Juana Tiniguar Aguilar. My dad works as a day laborer, and he goes to pick coffee beans at the coast for three months. My mom sews blouses to help with the income.

We live in our own house, and it is made of adobe with a tile roof and dirt floor. We have electricity but no running water; fortunately, a maternal uncle provides us with this service. We have hens and pigs as domestic animals. Our frequent needs are groceries and clothes. I have to walk for one hour and thirty minutes to arrive at the feeding program and enjoy a delicious lunch. I tell you that my mom helped me to give this information to an Evangelism teacher. I hope you can read my letter and find it interesting.

Warm greetings
