My Story

Dueñas, where your child lives, is a small farming village located at the foot of one of Guatemala's active volcanoes, Fuego (Fire). The fertile ground around the village allows for the cultivation of roses and coffee, two of Guatemala's largest exports. Most of the families in this area live in one or two room wooden or adobe houses with tin roofs. Electricity is available to those who can afford it. Running water is available - however, most homes do not have indoor plumbing. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider education of value. Life in Dueñas is quiet and sometimes difficult.

Hello! My name is Fausto Isaac Hernandez Charuc. My birthdate is December 8, 2017, which makes me 5 years of age now. I attend pre-kindergarten this year. I love coloring. I love the color green and my favorite animal is the dog; in fact, I have two as my pets. My favorite meal is noodles. My father is Fausto Isaac Hernandez Guachin. He works as a day laborer, farmer and bricklayer to supply the family´s needs. My mother is Doris Donaira Charuc Garcia. She does the housework and takes care of my brother and me.

Recently, I had an infection in my lungs, and I was at the hospital. Fortunately, I am getting well since I am taking medicines. Besides that, we are fine. We rent the house in which we live, and the monthly payment is Q650.00 = $87.00. There is one room made entirely of tin sheets with a cement floor. There is electricity and running water; my father is in charge of paying for them. We are a very humble and needy family, and due to lack of work, we have gone through difficulties economically; our greatest need is food. We do not attend church for now. I live about 5 minutes from the feeding program. This time the Living Water staff collected this information personally for the record, and my mother Doris Charuc provided it. Take care, and I hope to receive news from you very soon. Every blessing for you!

With much love,

Fausto Isaac Hernandez Charuc
