My Story

Dueñas, where your child lives, is a small farming village located at the foot of one of Guatemala's active volcanoes, Fuego (Fire). The fertile ground around the village allows for the cultivation of roses and coffee, two of Guatemala's largest exports. Most of the families in this area live in one or two room wooden or adobe houses with tin roofs. Electricity is available to those who can afford it. Running water is available - however, most homes do not have indoor plumbing. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider education of value. Life in Dueñas is quiet and sometimes difficult.

Hello! My name is Angel Gustavo Flores Gomez. I was born on October 3, 2014, and I am already 9 years old. I attend 2^nd grade at school. My hobby is playing soccer. The color I like is blue, and the dog is my favorite animal. At home, we have dogs and cats as pets. The meal I love is pizza. I live with my parents and one brother; fortunately, we all are healthy.

My father´s name is Edwin Estuardo Flores Perez. He makes a living by farming the land in the village.  My mother´s name is Griselda Elizabeth Gomez de Flores. Most of the time, she does the housework and sells tortillas. We attend Catholic Church in our village. We own the house in which we live, and we share the house with two of my mother´s sisters. There are two rooms and a separate kitchen; those are made of blocks, cement roof and a cement floor. We have running water and electricity, and my father pays for them. As a family, our most essential requirement is groceries. We get to the feeding program in 10 minutes by motorcycle. This time the Living Water staff collected this information personally for the record, and my mother Griselda Gomez provided it. I send many hugs. May God bless you!
