My Story

I greet you in the name of Jesus and I trust He is taking care of you and your lovely family! For now, we do not attend any church due to my parents’ decisions. This time LW staff shared the gospel with me and encouraged me to seek God. We all are in good health, thanks to God. My mother is Pascuala Mateo Guarcas, and she is 29 years old. She stays busy with the duties at home. In addition, she raises hens and turkeys for selling to contribute to the income. My father is Domingo Gomez Ajqui, and he is 38 years old. He is employed as both a farmer and a day laborer. Moreover, he grows corn and black beans for the family's consumption.

I am Gabriela Gomez Mateo, and I am 12 years old. I am a second-grade student; I like to attend school because I can solve my doubts and then it is easy for me to do the homework. Thanks to God and my parents' struggles, I can attend school and have what I need. I want to continue with my studies because I would like to become a nurse and support my parents. My native language is K'iche´ Mayan dialect. I can speak a little Spanish, but I would like to improve it so that I can communicate better with other people. The sport I like the most is football. I like Christmas; my family and I enjoy some “tamales” (a typical dish) at Christmas Eve dinner. Let me tell you I love drinking oatmeal, and my mother cooks in a very special way. Something I love on my birthday is to receive some gift because it makes me feel so happy. I take this opportunity to give endless thanks for all support I receive through Living Water; the meals are a great blessing for me and it is an economic savings for my parents. As a family, the top priorities are corn, black beans, sugar, and clothes. Sending huge hugs. Many and rich blessings!

Warm greetings,

Gabriela Gomez Mateo
