My Story

It is a beautiful day to greet you in the name of Jesus hoping you are doing great. Praise the Lord my family and I attend Catholic Church; we go on Wednesdays. We trust our salvation in God, but we appreciate so much the encouraging words that LW staff gave us this time. Thankfully, we all are fine at home. My father is Luis Hernandez Gutierrez, and he is 42 years old. He continues working in a grocery store, and he keeps in touch with me even though he is separated from my mother. My mother is Sebastiana de la Cruz Saquic, and she is 37 years old. She sells oatmeal and wheat in the market to supply our needs. She also raises hens to sell to get income.

I am Yosilyn Esmeralda Hernandez de la Cruz, and I am a 13-year-old girl. This year I could not attend school because of limited resources. I spend my time helping with the housework. I speak the K'iche´ Mayan dialect as my native language and have some knowledge of Spanish. However, I would like to enhance my proficiency in Spanish to communicate better with others. When I grow up, I would like to be a good cook like my mother. Christmas is one of my favorite seasons of the year; most of families get together in those days. We do not celebrate our birthdays because of a lack of resources, but I would like to receive a cake or some gift; it will be fantastic. My favorite drinks are oatmeal and juices. The sport I like the most is football. Being part Living Water is a great blessing for me because I receive tasty meals, dental and medical care in the clinics which is so helpful for me and my family. I feel so happy when I attend. The most needed items at home are groceries, sugar and corn. We thank God for blessing us and providing for our daily sustenance. Sending much love. Every kind of blessing to you!

Warm hugs,

Yosilyn Esmeralda Hernandez de la Cruz
