My Story

Hi! My name is Ergis Penko. I am 13 years old, and I was born in September. I am in good health, my favorite color is white because it is calm and pretty, just like the clouds. I spend my mornings at school. Since we do not have a school in my village, I go to one in the next village, and the school provides transportation for us. I have many classes, but my favorite one is Albanian because I am really good at it.After school, I usually play ball games in the street with my friends. When I get home, I help my parents in the fields, watering the plants and doing other chores. In my free time, I like watching videos and playing games on my phone. My family is small—just my mother, father, and me. We live in a little house in a village that is part of the Pogradec community. My mom stays at home and takes care of the house, and my dad runs a second-hand shop to support us. Whenever we need groceries or medical help, we go into town because our village does not have a hospital. My father has a job in Pogradec. He travels there and works from morning till midday and returns in the village, using the transportation of the village. We have a few minibuses that go and come from the village to the town and so my father can work in the town. We are happy that through the income of my father all our needs are fully met. Still we are poor and living in the village has a lot of hardships. The Adopt a child program receives packages that contain food items and groceries that can be cooked inside of their homes. When the children come to collect their food boxes, they are asked to bring their parents. This way, we have open doors to evangelize and invite them to our church activities. The program offers children bible lessons that I attend often. The program also offers bible studies for women once a week. My mother attends these meetings frequently.
