My Story

It is a beautiful day to greet you trusting that our Lord is blessing you! Praise the Lord my family and I attend Assembly of God Church; we attend twice per week. I have already accepted Jesus as my savior. We are in good health, thanks to the Lord. My mother is Maria Lopez, and she is 35 years old. She is a housewife and weaves typical items for selling and get some income. My father is Ignacio Garcia Ruiz, and he is 45 years old. He went to work in the United States a couple years ago. He works on poultry farm and sends us financial support. In addition, she raises hens, and sheep for selling. At home, we grow corn and black beans for the family's consumption.

This is Florinda Garcia Lopez, and I am 13 years old. I am a sixth-grade student; my learning has improved since I receive classes at school. Nowadays, school supplies are very expensive, and it is hard for my parents to pay for them. The teaching profession catches my attention, and I would like to study for it. I speak the K'iche´ Mayan dialect as my native language and have some knowledge of Spanish. However, I would like to enhance my proficiency in Spanish to communicate better with others. The sport I like the most is football. My favorite drink is “atol de masa” (it is a hot beverage made of dough, cinnamon and sugar); it is delicious. I like New Year because it is a new beginning, and we prepare “tamales” (a typical dish) to share as a family. Due to limited resources, we cannot celebrate our birthdays, but I would like to have a cake to share with my family. I am so grateful to Living Water for providing me with tasty meals, and medical care in the clinics; it is a big blessing for me. At home, the primary need for us is corn so that my mother can make our tortillas. Sending much love and hoping to hear from you soon. May God bless you greatly!

Warm greetings,

Florinda Garcia Lopez
